Amazing Grace

amazing grace

A few weeks ago, I had another one of those Psalm 143:5 moments. For those of you who don’t know what Psalm 143:5 is, it goes something like this:

“I remember the days of long ago;

I meditate on all your works

and consider what your hands have done.”

This is a Psalm written by king David and I will always recall this Psalm during times of personal reflection. I usually recount things that happened in my life ever since I became Christian. In hindsight, it never ceases to amaze me how He orchestrates everything beautifully in my life and other’s lives as well. Indeed the verse in Romans 12:2 comes to life: “– his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” because no matter what situation we’re going through right now, we can be assured that God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

As I recount my Christian journey, I just get so amazed when I compare myself now to the person I was 3 years ago. There were things that enslaved me, things where I was powerless to overcome especially out of my own strength. In Romans 7:14 it says “but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin”. Now that I remember and am able to compare, 2 weeks ago I was wondering “So what was it that made the difference?”. The answer popped out my head as if it were a revelation from heaven, one word – Grace.

We usually define grace as an undeserved favor from God quoting the famous verse: Ephesians 2:8-9“For it is by grace that you have been saved, not by works so that no one can boast”. However, Pastor Nixon described grace as something that someone does so elegantly that that person makes it looks so easy. We describe ballet dancers as graceful because they make all their ballet moves look so easy, when in fact it isn’t one bit! Similarly, in our Christian walk, because of the grace that was given to us by God, we make the things that the world seems to struggle with look so easy to fend of.

Pastor Joey compared faith to himself as water is to a fish, as Christians we should live and breathe faith in our daily lives. For me, if faith is the thing that we should live and breathe by then grace should be the element in our lives that we stand upon, else we fall because we have nothing to stand upon. It says in Romans 5:2:

Romans 5:2

Through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God

Always stand on God’s grace, else we will fall if we try to use our own strength in living this life.

When peer pressure and all forms of temptations comes in. The Christian is the one that should be different from the rest. Hopefully, when people see our lives, we will be living testimonies of God’s grace in our lives that whenever they see our lives they’ll say “How are you able to do that?!”. They’ll be amazed of the grace that has been given to us, that only God can give. That’s why it’s amazing. Amazing Grace. 🙂

“Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)”

by Chris Tomlin

Amazing grace

How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now I’m found

Was blind, but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed

My chains are gone

I’ve been set free

My God, my Savior has ransomed me

And like a flood His mercy rains

Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me

His word my hope secures

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow

The sun forbear to shine

But God, Who called me here below

Will be forever mine

Will be forever mine

You are forever mine
